Post-Treatment Skin Care after Getting Botox Injections

Botox injections are commonly recommended by dermatologists and aestheticians for those who want a non-invasive solution for wrinkle reduction. The procedure takes only about ten to fifteen minutes to complete, and results may start to appear two to three days after the treatment. The effects usually last between three to six months. Patients who wish to maintain a wrinkle-free appearance undergo Botoxtreatment two to three times a year.

Additionally, patients are also advised to take care of their skin after treatment to take full advantage of the effects of the treatment. While the injections are highly effective in reducing the visibility of wrinkles and temporarily lifting drooping eyebrows and upper eyelids, taking extra care of the skin is also an important factor in maintaining a youthful appearance.

Skin Care Tips

There are two major factors that contribute to aging skin: the sun’s harmful UV rays and water deficiency/dehydration. Therefore, the general skin care recommendation after receiving Botox injections is to target these two major skin “enemies.”

Sun Exposure–Too much sun exposure accounts for 80% of advanced skin aging cases that doctors see every year. Using sunscreens with at least SPF 15 is advised. If you will be hitting the beach this summer, use a sunscreen lotion with at least SPF 30—and make sure it’s waterproof so it doesn’t wash off if you’re going in the water.

Dehydration–When the body lacks water, organs get affected—and the skin is the largest organ in the body. Apart from excessive sun exposure, not drinking enough water causes dehydration. The general recommendation is to drink eight glasses of water every day. Usually however, when the body experiences water deficiency, the brain triggers the “thirst signals” to alert the person to drink water.

These basic skin care tips will do wonders for your skin. Aside from having younger, healthier-looking skin, you will also prevent—or at least delay—the appearance of new wrinkles. Additionally, your dermatologist or aesthetician may also give you other recommendations on how to take care of your skin after your Botox treatment.
