CoolSculpting: Targeting Excess Belly Fats

CoolSculpting is a non-surgical fat reduction treatment that targets unwanted fats around your abdominal area. There are various factors that contribute to the accumulation of fat around the abdomen, and many of these are related to a person’s eating and lifestyle habits. While there are treatments available for getting rid of these excess fats, the treatments alone are not enough to keep them off. The patient also has to make certain changes in their lifestyle and diet to prevent the formation of new belly fat.

Before you proceed with the CoolSculpting treatment, you should first know that the procedure isn’t a panacea for complete weight loss. Its specific purpose is to reduce fats on your belly—in other words, the extra fat that causes muffin top, beer belly, or love handles. Additionally, Dr. Tang will first see the patient to determine if they are a good candidate for the procedure.

Recommended Changes in Eating and Lifestyle Habits

To keep the fat off after you’ve had the non-surgical fat reduction treatment, a few dietary habits should be eliminated—or at least modified. The first to go are carbonated drinks; sodas, in particular. These contain high fructose corn syrup. Fructose is a type of simple sugar that the body doesn’t need. Unfortunately, this can’t be easily eliminated from the body. As a matter of fact, the body has a hard time burning this type of sugar and as a result, it gets transformed into fat that usually ends up around the abdomen area.

Emotional or stress eating also contributes to abdominal fat. When you are under a lot of stress or going through a roller coaster of emotions, the tendency is to eat food that gives you a sudden “high,” and this means salty or sugary food and drink. Junk food like chips, soda, candy, and fast food are only some of the go-to comfort foods of emotional eaters. Additionally, emotional eating could become a binging habit that you may have a hard time getting rid of.

Also avoid eating late at night and then going directly to bed. The body may not be able to completely burn the fats while it is at rest. The general recommendation is to avoid lying down or reclining for at least three hours after dinner.

You should also get enough rest and exercise. With these changes after your CoolSculpting treatment, you can make sure that the belly fat stays off.
