3-Step Skincare Routine and Botox Treatment Improve Facial Skin Issues

With the ready availability of various non-invasive cosmetic procedures, particularly those that help improve wrinkles and fine lines (two of the most common signs of aging), both men and women are given an effective solution to their skin problems. From Botox treatment to dermal filler injections, laser skin resurfacing and more, patients now have plenty of options for maintaining their youthful appearance.

But aestheticians and doctors remind patients that the foundation of healthy, young-looking skin is a daily skincare routine. If you neglect to care for your skin, no amount of non-invasive and invasive cosmetic treatments can maintain your youthful glow. If you’ve just had your Botox treatment to improve dynamic wrinkles and lines (crow’s feet, forehead lines, and lines between the eyebrows), this is the perfect time to start a daily skincare routine to help improve extend the results of the Botox and to help improve the appearance and texture of the skin which the Botox doesn’t address. Don’t know where to start? Remember these basic steps to effective skincare:

1. Cleanse

Your face is exposed to pollutants all day, especially if you go out of the house. The harsher the environment, the more exposed to irritants and pollutants your face is. That said, the most important skincare habit you should develop is cleansing. Wash your face at least twice per day; once in the morning and once in the evening before you turn. Dirt that has accumulated on the face could clod your pores, which in turn could cause numerous skin problems.

When choosing a cleanser, consider your skin type: oily, acne-prone, dry, sensitive, mature skin, and so on. If you’re not sure about your skin type, consult the doctor that administered your Botox treatment.

2. Tone

Toners help even out the skin so you won’t have dark blotches or patches here and there. In other words, they help balance your complexion. But toners do so much more than improve your complexion; they help keep the skin hydrated, improve the skin’s nutrient absorption, and help protect the skin from free radicals. While dermatologists tell their patients that toning is optional, a good skincare routine takes care of every aspect of skin health, so don’t be too quick to dismiss this step until you’re tried it.

3. Moisturize

If one has dry skin, moisturizing the skin helps keep it young. As we age, our skin’s ability to absorb or retain moisture diminishes, which is one of the reasons why wrinkles and fine lines appear. On the other hand, hydrated skin may help delay the onset of fine lines and wrinkles. Moisturizers come in different forms, from gels to balms, and lotion but the most common, and one which most people are familiar with, is the cream form. The usual recommendation is a day cream and a night cream as these have different moisturizing and protection components.

3. Build Collagen

This final step is the most important as the 1st 3 steps do not affect the foundation of the skin – collagen. As we age and we lose the ability to make our collagen and as we continually expose ourselves to the sun and the environment there is more damage to the skin. There is a great need for skin products that include antioxidants like Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Zinc, and CoQ10 to help protect the skin from free radical damage. Vitamin C also helps to build collagen. Also, there are many other categories of products that include growth factors, peptides, and Retin A that can help build collagen through different pathways which is essential to maintaining a youthful appearance.
