Sculptra Receives New FDA Nod for Full Cheek Area

Sculptra is one of the most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedures today for improving fine lines and wrinkles on the face. It first received the FDA’s seal of approval in 2004 for the correction of nasolabial folds, or those lines between the nose and mouth. Volume loss, wrinkles, fine lines, and loss of skin elasticity are common signs of aging. Invasive and non-invasive treatments are available for patients who wish to correct these issues to regain their youthful glow.

What signs of aging does Sculptra work to improve?

First off, Sculptra is an FDA-approved injectable product that contains poly-L-lactic acid, which is a synthetic cosmetic filler. This synthetic filler was developed to act as a biostimulator, which means it works in conjunction with your body’s natural processes, specifically, your own collagen production.

As mentioned above, it was first approved by the FDA for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles, particularly, nasolabial folds or smile lines. In April 2023, Galderma, makers of Sculptra, announced that they received new approval from the FDA for Sculptra, this time, for the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles on the full cheek area.

Apart from improving fine lines, wrinkles, folds, and creases on the face, Sculptra has also been found to significantly improve skin texture and skin laxity, which translates to an improved overall skin health.

Sculptra results

What patients appreciate the most about this non-invasive skin treatment is that results are natural-looking. People won’t know you’ve had anything done because the results are both subtle and noticeable. Subtle in that results are not glaring to the point where you look puffy, frozen, or basically, exaggeratedly enhanced. And noticeable in that people will definitely rave about your youthful glow, and young and healthy skin but won’t be particularly clued in on whether you’ve had anything done.

As the first and original FDA-approved poly-L-lactic acid injectable dermal filler that stimulates collagen production, Sculptra boasts of being a trailblazer in the collagen stimulator category. This stimulation of the body’s natural collagen production process is what gives patient natural-looking results.

On that note, patients are reminded that results won’t be instant. How long you wait for results to become noticeable will depend on your body’s collagen production. Usually, however, patients see an improvement a few weeks after treatment. Most patients will need a series of treatments done every six weeks.  Optimal results are achieved in three to six months. Sculptra offers results that are longer-lasting compared to other similar treatments. With Sculptra, you can enjoy your results for up to two years.
