Combining Botox Treatment with Other Non-invasive Facial Skin Treatments

Both women and men who have never undergone any type of cosmetic treatment before, whether surgical or non-surgical, often ask during initial consultation if they can combine certain treatments or therapies in hopes of achieving their desired results within a shorter time frame. Patients for Botox treatment, for instance, usually ask their doctor if they can combine this with other non-invasive treatments for optimal results. The short answer is “yes,” but there are still a few factors to consider since each patient’s skin condition is unique.

But for your reference, here are some of the non-invasive facial skin treatments that may be safely combined with a Botox treatment:

1. Dermal fillers

Like Botox, dermal fillers are injectables as well. However, they

function quite differently. Where Botox injections temporarily paralyzes those muscles that cause expression lines or wrinkles to appear, dermal fillers volumize the area/s onto which they were injected. That said, these are usually requested to plump up the lips. They are also used on the cheeks or underneath the eyes (tear troughs) that has become hollowed due to loss of skin elasticity (a normal part of aging).

Patients undergoing a Botox treatment may likewise get these injectables during the same session. However, it is your doctor who will determine whether or not you can have both in the same session or you’d best wait at least a week or two for the dermal fillers.

2. Ultherapy skin tightening

Ultherapy skin tightening is an FDA-cleared non-invasive treatment for lifting loose or sagging skin in the face or under the chin and around the neck, as well as droopy skin around the eyebrows. Additionally, it is the only non-invasive treatment cleared by the FDA for improving wrinkles and lines on the chest area.

Both Botox and dermal filler injections can be safely combined with Ultherapy. Your doctor will evaluate your skin concerns and develop a personalized treatment plan that may include Ultherapy skin tightening.

3. Laser-assisted treatments

Popular laser-assisted treatments include intense pulsed light (IPL) and laser skin resurfacing, both of which are designed to improve wrinkles and fine lines as well as give the patient a more even skin tone. Usually, laser-assisted treatments are performed before a Botox treatment; however, you may also get Botox injections first and then get your laser treatment after. You may need to wait for up to four weeks however, to prevent the laser treatment from interfering with your Botox treatment.

Chemical peels and microdermabrasion may also be combined with Botox, but these should be done separately; not on the same day. As you can see, non-invasive treatments may be combined with Botox, but all this will depend on your doctor’s assessment.
