What’s the best fit for my skin?

As with any treatment or procedure, it is important to review all of your options, each treatment description, and the approximated downtime, also referred to as recovery period, prior to making your final decision on the right treatment for you. While weighing the pros and cons for your situation and choice, make sure to ask any and all questions you may have as we want you to be wholly satisfied and comfortable with your treatment before, during, and immediately following the laser therapy.

There are currently three different laser treatments varying in strength, downtime post treatment, desired results, and overall skin improvement. Keep in mind that not all procedures can be done in just one treatment. Some of the more severe cases may take several days for swelling and redness reduction before skin reflects the full effects of the laser therapy.

The IPL treatment is excellent for minor skin improvements, such as sun spots, broken capillaries and fine lines. This treatment is also good for pore reduction and refining basic skin texture. With this treatment, there is no downtime but there is also very minimal skin tightness post procedure. If you are looking for tighter, more refined skin appearance, you may want to look into our second level laser therapy- the Fraxel Refine, which is designed to further enhance skin appearance.

For a medium strength treatment, we have the Fraxel Refine. Similar to the IPL treatment, this treatment is good for sun spots as well as mild lines and wrinkles. While the Fraxel Refine does have a post-treatment downtime of approximately three days, it results in overall better skin texture and skin tightness as well as treat upper eyelid and neck sagging. This treatment does not, however, treat deeper surface scars or broken capillaries. The Fraxel Refine typically requires a minimum of four treatments for best results.

SmartXide DOT therapy is the third and strongest treatment we offer. As with the IPL and Fraxel Refine, the SmartXide is good for sun spots while also addressing the issues of moderate to deep lines and mild to severe scarring. However, SmartXide cannot be used to treat Hispanic, Asian or Black skin.

SmartXide results in the best overall improvement of skin texture and appearance. Unlike the FraxelRefine, the SmartXide DOT therapy typically only requires one treatment for desired results. More severe issues, such as lines in upper lip known as smoker’s lines, and severe acne scars may require 2-3 treatments. The average downtime with this procedure is an average of 5-7 days. While SmartXide DOT therapy is the most uncomfortable of the three options, the discomfort is still very much so tolerable for the average patient.

All treatments do have side effects. The most common side effects with these treatments are redness of the skin and swelling. Estimated downtown for each procedure is an approximation and can vary from patient to patient.  For more information on one or all of these laser skin treatments, please do not hesitate to contact us for further information.
