How does the Exilis tighten the skin and improve skin texture?
Exilis uses a patented technology to precisely target the skin using dual energy exposure to rejuvenate the collagen. Please diagram below.
CRT FACE REJUVENATION

COLLAGEN REFILL TECHNOLOGY (CRT)

* The collagen fiber triple-helix structure is affected by heat. This initiates the unravelling process.
* The mechanical waves disrupt the collagen fibers
* The combination of energies quickly and efficiently dissociates the collagen structure
* The natural healing process evokes the fibroblasts to produce new collagen fibers
* The skin structure is refilled with collagen

How does Exilis reduce fat?
The Exilis uses a revolutionary patented technology that delivers ultrasonic waves and controlled heating to the tissue.

How does Exilis work?
The Exilis uses a revolutionary patented technology that delivers ultrasonic waves and controlled heating to the tissue.

The mechanical effects of ultrasound energy allows access and treatment of previously resistant tissue. EXILIS precisely targets deeper fat layers, while contact cooling of the surface regulates the temperature of the skin and protects fine dermal structures.

As part of the process, mechanical waves help to increase fibrotic fat structures, causing separation of the cell defensive formation into individual units. The exposed cells are then more isolated and accessible and responsive to treatment.

High frequency energy causes targeted deep thermal heating. Metabolic activity is initiated and the local fat tissue lipolysis process is accelerated. Fat cell volume decreases and the fat layer is reduced.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Exilis FDA approved?
Yes. The Exilis is currently FDA approved for the primary treatment of dermatology and general surgical procedures for non-invasive treatment of wrinkles and rhytids. The body contouring indication is currently pending, though the FDA does allow physicians to use the device in other off label purposes if they feel it is clinical appropriate and safe. For example, Botox is only FDA approved for the treatment of frown lines but doctors have been treating crow's feet (around the eyes) and the forehead among other areas since the early 90's.

Does the Exilis have any downtime?
No. Most patients will experience some redness which will disappear in about 1-2 hours. There is no bruising. For the face, make up can eventually be applied that day if needed. For body treatments, we encourage patients to be physically active.

Is the Exilis treatment painful?
No. This treatment does not require any topical or oral anesthetics. No medicines are needed prior to the treatment to relax as compared to other tightening devices. You will feel some heat to the tissue which can be adjusted quickly to the patient's own tolerance.

Can the Exilis cause any scars?
Only in extremely rare occasions can this be possible. This would require an enormous amount of heat to be delivered in a very sensitive person and in these situations, patients can blister. Most blisters will heal with no scars but if the blister is severe enough then it potentially can scar.

How do I prepare for the treatment?
For the body contouring treatment:
- shave any hair in the intended treatment area 1 day before
- drink plenty of fluids (at least 8 tall glasses) the day before, before you arrive on the day of the treatment, right after the treatment, and the day after
- minimize alcohol intake 2 weeks prior and during the treatment
- liver detoxification - we can discuss at your consult
For the face or neck treatment:
- please do not wear any make up or jewelry
- shave any hair in the intended treatment area 1 day before

How many treatments are needed and how far apart do they need to be?
We recommend that (most) patients get 4 treatments every 1-2 weeks to maximize their results.

Who cannot have the Exilis treatment?
- pregnant or lactating women
- patients who have a pacemaker
- patients who active skin disease at the intended treatment site
- patients who have metal devices or metal

Can patients who have darker skin have this treatment?
Yes. Since the Exilis is not chromophore dependent (not targeting skin pigment) all skin types including patients with dark skin can have this treatment safely.

Can Exilis be combined with botox and/or dermal fillers?
Yes. This is the beauty of treatment. It will only enhance your overall results. Dr. Tang will discuss with you the best course of action should this be needed.

Will I lose weight with the Exilis treatment?
No. This treatment does not reduce any weight. Usually, only 1-2 pounds will be lost with this treatment. If weight loss is your goal, Dr. Tang has various weight loss options that he can discuss to meet your goals and philosophy.

Can I regain the inches that I lost with the Exilis?
Yes. Like any other device that reduces fat, liposuction procedure, or weight loss program, if you are not careful with your diet and do not exercise then you can gain weight and gain back all the inches you have lost. If this were to happen, then you will gain it back slowly in the same way that you will normally (unlike in liposuction where the weight and inches are often found in differents parts of the body that were not treated). It is important to make lifestyle changes with your diet and exercise regimen. Dr. Tang can advise you on these lifestyle changes if necessary.

How does the Exilis compare with the Zerona?
The Exilis uses a different technology known as radiofrequency to heat and vibrate the release of fat from the fat cells. The Zerona uses a low level laser to stimulate the fat cell membrane to release fat from the fat cells. In both types of treatments, the fat cells are not destroyed. However, the Exilis is able to target specific areas of fat deposits while the Zerona is non selective in the areas that it treats. In addition, the Exilis is able to provide skin tightening over the desired area while the Zerona has no effect on skin tightening.
