Skin peels of varying descriptions have been used for thousands of years. According to historical accounts, ancient civilizations used masks composed of sour milk or wine residues to improve their appearance. Today, we may not use milk or wine, but chemical peels remain a proven method to help regain the smooth, healthy complexion you desire.
Chemical peels can be used to treat wrinkles, sunspots, and facial scarring. Peels are most commonly performed on the face, and neck, although the chest, hands, arms, and legs can also be treated depending on the type of peel that is used. |

Dr. Tang’s medical grade chemical peel is a unique blend of active cosmeceutical ingredients, creating one of the safest 15 minute “no downtime” medical peel. It goes much deeper than your typical peel used by the day spas, and there is no risk of scarring. You will see a dramatic improvement in epidermal texture: age spots, freckles, and superficial pigmentation. Collagen and Elastin, the foundation of the skin, are stimulated and enlarged pores are made less visible, creating a softer, smoother, younger-looking skin. Chemical peels are a great way to revitalize your skin!
- Q: Are all chemical peels the same?
- A: Definitely not. They are all different. It depends on the active ingredients used which will determine the effectiveness of the peel and how much downtime. Dr. Tang has selected an unique combination that contains salicylic acid, trichloric acid, and retinoic acid to provide an effective safe peel with minimal downtime.
- Q: Are chemical peels safe?
- A: Chemical Peels generally are safe. However, the risk profile will vary depending on the active ingredients. In extreme cases, when a powerful ingredient is applied for too long, it can cause deep burns which may lead to hyperpigmentation and occasionally scarring. However, Dr. Tang, has picked a moderate strength formulation which he considers safe. Dr. Tang has performed more than 2 thousand peels with no complications of burns or scars.
- Q: Is the chemical peel painful?
- A: No. There is no pain. For a brief moment, you will have some mild burning that will last 1-2 minutes which will resolve once the peel is completed.
- Q: How many days will I peel?
- A: On average, most patients will peel for 3-5 days. The peeling will start 2 days after the application of the peel. During the peeling, most patients will peel a considerable amount. However, this amount of peeling is required to remove all the dead skin so that the skin is rejuvenated.
- Q: Can I go out the same day of the peel?
- A: Yes. Most patients have only slight redness which looks like one was out in the sun for 1-2 hours and there is no swelling. Once the peel application dries you can even apply make up if necessary.
- Q: How often should I do chemical peels?
- A: It depends on several factors such as one’s maintenance skin regimen afterwards, genetics, age, and sun and environmental exposure. We recommend having chemical peels at least twice a year if not more.
