Botox Injections and Dermal Fillers: What’s the Difference?

Are you worried about deep lines and wrinkles? There are now various methods that you can consider to address your concerns, and the two most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedures for these are Botox injections and dermal fillers.

While both are administered via an injection, their effects vary. The targeted skin issue is also different for each one. Please continue reading below to know the differences between the two, and to help you decide which one is for you.

Botox Treatment

This type of non-invasive cosmetic treatment targets facial wrinkles, crow’s feet, forehead lines, and facial creases caused by the contraction of muscles.

Botox injections are generally administered in diluted doses with amounts that are determined by the doctor. It is never a good idea to administer these injections yourself, as adverse effects could occur. You may experience restriction in your facial movements or expressions, or you could look like “you had something done”.

The solution temporarily paralyzes the muscles to prevent the appearance of wrinkles and lines. The effects usually last up to three to six months.

Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers, on the other hand, address facial creases caused by volume loss. The loss of skin elasticity also comes with age, and when this happens, you might notice that you suddenly have sagging jowls and eyebrows, or loose skin on the neck.

Where Botox paralyzes the muscles to prevent them from contracting and reduce the incidence of wrinkle development (within the estimated 3 to 4-month effectiveness of the treatment); dermal fillers add volume to the area where they were injected.

In other words, they plump up the skin to give it a lift.

As you can see, the targeted issues of each treatment vary. An experienced doctor whose expertise is in non-invasive cosmetic treatments is the best person to talk to about these procedures. He is also the best one to determine which one is right for you.
